Zoé Samudzi w/ Joshua Sperling

When: Thu., Jan. 17, 7-9 p.m. 2019

Come celebrate the publication of Joshua Sperling’s new book, A Writer of Our Time: The Life and Work of John Berger. On Thursday night, Sperling will join noted Berger enthusiast, writer and academic Zoé Samudzi to discuss the man Ali Smith dubbed “one of the world’s most vital corresponders.” For the unanointed, Berger was a Booker Prize-winning English art critic, known for investigating materialism, art, culture, community, and revolution. Using first-hand, unpublished interviews and archival sources, Sperling has written a revealing look at “a figure of remarkable complexity and resilience.” Samudzi and Sperling will explore how the book came to be while using Berger’s work to discuss their own work and activism. John Berger believed that real art was always collaborative, always asked questions and existed in dialogues, multilogues, in community. Join the conversation and get yourself a copy of the book of our time about the writer of our time. Thursday, Jan. 17, 7-9 p.m., free, Wolfman Books, 19 13th St. Oakland,
