Zero Days

Rated PG-13 116 minutes 2016

Alex Gibney’s documentary takes a hard look at the secret, undeclared cyberwar pitting the US intelligence community and Israel against Iran, around the issue of Iran’s nuclear research program. We learn about Stuxnet, an aggressive form of computer worm that can destroy infrastructure, and the behind-the-scenes struggle to one-up the competition — with onscreen testimony by Symantec’s Eric Chien and Liam O’Murchu, two of the only participants willing to go public about this conflict, which has been going on since 2009. The investigation is open-ended, challenging, and may keep you awake at night. Leave it to writer-director Gibney (Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief and We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks) to uncover the news stories mainstream outlets seem to routinely ignore.
