Zanzibar Puppets' Cinderella

When: Saturdays, Sundays, 2 & 4 p.m. Continues through Dec. 26 2010

Puppets can be a tough sell for anyone over the age of five, but since its inception in 2008, Zanzibar Puppet Theater has been doing refined, modern puppet shows that are as likely to enthrall parents as their children with hand-sewn costumes, sophisticated lighting and sets, and characters that are closer to works of art. Socks puppets these are not. On Sunday, Dec. 26, the company, which is currently operating out of Uptown Body and Fender (401 26th St., Oakland), presents its signature show, a grown-up, classed-up take on Cinderella that's nonetheless imbued with an undeniable sense of whimsy. 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., $12.
