Yummy Grill is an Afghan restaurant at the corner of High Street and International Boulevard that opened in early 2018. According to owner Farid Bakhtary, it’s the only Afghan restaurant in this area, where there are taco trucks on nearly every corner. The most popular items here are the kabobs. The chapli kabob in particular was a standout. Here, ground beef and a secret mix of spices were blended together and shaped into two hamburger-sized patties, with a hard-to-achieve combo of a juicy middle and a crisp, charred outside. The Afghan appetizers are equally well-executed. The potato bolani received perfect marks: a crisp, stuffed flatbread served piping hot, with a thin layer of creamy potato and green onions. There’s also an excellent eggplant dish, served with yogurt and housemade hot sauce. Round out the meal with Afghan desserts like ferni, a rosewater-scented custard. Not a fan of Afghan food? There’s also gyros, falafel, burgers, fried chicken, and Philly cheesesteaks.
