Set alongside the still-unsolved murders of Esperanza Hernandez and her teenage daughter Carmelita two and a half years earlier, there seems to be something going on under the surface of the East Bay's second-largest city - where waves of immigration in the '90s created one of the Bay Area's most culturally diverse communities, home of "Little Kabul" and other ethnic enclaves.
