Acclaimed novelist Yiyun Li has won many awards; last year, The New Yorker named the Oakland resident one of its "top twenty writers under forty." Written in English rather than her native Chinese, Li's scathing observations of the post-Mao China where she grew up fill such moving works as The Vagrants and Gold Boy, Emerald Girl. As part of the Story Hour in the Library series, Li reads in UC Berkeley's Morrison Library on Thursday, Mar. 10. 5 p.m., free. StoryHour.Berkeley.edu.
