The eight-year-old daughter of two doctors watches her world fall apart in 1972 as China's Cultural Revolution results in her father being imprisoned, her family starving, and their books being burned. Cookbook author Ying Chang Compestineturns to young-adult fiction with her novel Revolution Is Not a Dinner Party, which she reads at the Lesher Center for the Arts (1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek) on Oct. 22. 7 p.m.
