Wu Tang Clan

When: Thu., Dec. 2, 9 p.m. 2010

Probably the best-organized rap cabal of all time, Wu-Tang Clan is known for being an incubator (it's generated such stars as Rza, Method Man, and GhostfaceKillah, after all), and for being the nucleus of a strange, ardent fan culture. Take the group of guys who stood at the back of the room during Ghostface's recent show at Slim's, name-checking every song title and rapping along line-for-line. That's not something you'd find elsewhere in hip-hop. Even the most zealous Eminem fan probably wouldn't take the time to collect all his mixtapes, or memorize every lyric. Indeed, this week's Wu-Tang show at Mezzanine (444 Jessie St., San Francisco) will probably attract a lot of people who not only know every member of Wu-Tang, but also know the whole exegesis of each rapper's career. Expect to see vinyl copies of 36 Chambers flapping in the air. The Jackaopens, along with DJ M-Rock. On Thursday, Dec. 2. 9 p.m., $40, $55. MezzanineSF.com
