Wrath of the Titans

Rated PG-13 99 minutes 2012

Junky as this is, it’s better than the first installment, the 2010 remake of Clash of the Titans. A decent cast – Liam Neeson, Rosamund Pike, Ralph Fiennes, Édgar (Carlos) Ramírez, Bill Nighy, Danny Huston – gets trapped in Ancient Sequelsville with a lot of fireballs and gooey monsters. Something about the Greek gods, who are supposed to be immortal, getting old and useless in the midst of their eternal struggle against fiery behemoth Kronos and the Titans. Then it’s up to brave mortal Perseus (Sam Worthington) to rescue his father Zeus, the suddenly feeble king of the gods (Neeson). Freudians would have a field day with the scenario (by three writers), and director Jonathan Liebesman seems to be having fun, too. But it’s hard to tell. (99 min.)
