Whitman's Wealth Pays Off

The $40 million that Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman poured into her own campaign has paid off. According to pollster.com, which aggregates polling nationwide, Whitman now leads Democrat Jerry Brown after trailing by nearly 20 points a year ago:

Whitman's turnaround also appears to prove that positive ads work. Most of the expensive TV spots she ran during the Winter Olympics were glossy pieces designed to make voters feel good about her. Of course, her new lead in the polls also can be attributed Brown's mostly nonexistent campaign. And it looks as if her missteps last week, haven't affected her.
