West Oakland Diesel Brings the Cancer

That's what a new report from the California Air Resources Board says, according to accounts in the Trib and the Chron. At an Oakland meeting last night, Board officials announced that the diesel trucks carrying cargo to and from the Port of Oakland are the major contributor to elevated cancer risks for the 22,000 people who live around the port. Concerned port officials announced plans to levy new container fees to buy cleaner technology and spare West Oakland residents as much as they can.
