WASTED! The Story of Food Waste

One-third of the food grown annually for human consumption ends up in the garbage. That’s 1.3 billion tons annually. At the same time, millions around the world are starving. Anthony Bourdain and production company Zero Point Zero Films dive into this problem in the new documentary WASTED! The Story of Food Waste, which aims to change the way people buy, cook, recycle, and eat food. It follows celebrity chefs such as Dan Barber, Massimo Bottura, and Danny Bowien as they attempt to make the most of every ingredient. (Fair warning: It also stars Mario Batali, who has been widely accused of sexual misconduct.) After this one-off screening at Rialto Cinemas Elmwood, there will be a panel discussion on reducing food waste with local experts, including Food Shift founder Dana Frasz, Zero-Waste Chef blogger Anne-Marie Bonneau, Ecology Center director Martin Bourque, and Kathryn Larrowe of the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
