Wagner's The Legend of The Ring

When: Sat., July 31, 8 p.m. and Wed., Aug. 4, 7:30 p.m. 2010

Now that it is housed in a larger, more resonant venue that can do the singers justice, Berkeley Opera is set to reprise Wagner's Legend of the Ring. A new adaptation by David Seaman condenses the epic, four opera, fourteen-plus hour Ring Cycle into a single evening. Seaman honors all the major music themes, while slicing through some of the great scenes. Singers Richard Paul Fink (Wotan), Jay Hunter Morris (Siegfried), Marie Plette (Sieglinde and four others), and Dean Peterson (Hagen), all graced the Met in Manhattan at some point in their careers, and they all have requisite big voices. Fink and Hunter will trytheir roles for the first time in Berkeley Opera's Ring, which should make for particularly exciting theater. Legend of the Ring runs Friday, July 31 (8 p.m.) and Wednesday, August 4 (7:30 p.m.) at El Cerrito Performing Arts Theater (540 Ashbury Ave, El Cerrito)$25-65. 800838-3006 or BerkeleyOpera.org
