Vulfpeck is one of those bands that you don’t want to like, but they’re just so good, you can’t help it. Last December, they released the video for “Half The Way,” featuring frequent contributor Theo Katzman, who looks like American Hustle-era Bradley Cooper on lead vocals. It’s the kind of smooth, funky pop song that all the cool rock ‘n’ roll kids in the ’70s ruthlessly made fun of. But Vulfpeck are so entirely committed it, you will be singing along. The group was first conceived in 2011 by a bunch of Midwesterners that imagined a German version of the great R&B rhythm sections ala Wrecking Crew. The band has a lot of videos online, most of which are grainy and made to look like lost ’70s footage. They barrel through funk, soul, and R&B with such precision and fun, they are destined to be your new favorite band whether you like it or not.
