When: Nov. 17-Dec. 15 2017
Over the past six months, 20 artists and collectives have developed multimedia works that explore trauma, safety, visibility, women’s and transgender rights, and other contemporary social issues. Some of these Bay Area- and Los Angeles-based artists are video game designers, programmers, hackers, dancers, activists, scientists, performers, and others who work far beyond the usual visual arts paradigm — and they’re all women or genderqueer. Their genre-bending, experimental collaborations will be on display for the month-long Vital Hybrids exhibit at B4BEL4B Gallery, which was made possible through a Kenneth Rainin Foundation grant. There will be immersive installations featuring video games, data visualization, and even virtual reality. Expect to walk away contemplating post-gender identity and how to fight against xenophobia and online harassment.
