When: Dec. 4-Jan. 29 2019
Is democracy fragile? Is it the best system of governance available to us? These are the kinds of questions the new photo exhibit at Abrams Claghorn Gallery, Visions of Democracy, hopes to address. One photo collage by Maria Budner will get you thinking about the role money plays in unfairly distributing power within our democracy. Carol Gray’s photo poses the question of whether a nation that is politically polarized can ever hope to work together. John Rice contributes a powerful image of homelessness in wealthy Silicon Valley that raises questions about how income inequality hurts democracy. In total, 35 artists contribute 73 photos to this exhibit. There are no simple answers presented as there are no simple answers to the state of our democracy. The organizers hope that it inspires thoughtful conversations and inspires thinking that goes beyond surface-level discussions.
