Unwigged & Unplugged

When: Wed., April 22, 8 p.m. 2009

Eighties metal band Spinal Tap has amassed a fairly impressive discography, including several real albums and a list of "rumored" albums that somehow got lost in the vaults. Not too bad, considering the band doesn't exist. It's actually an elaborate fantasy created by actors Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer, who later unveiled an equally goofy folk outfit, the Folksmen, to star in their 2003 film A Mighty Wind. This year the group celebrates 25 years of quirky caricatures and questionable music with a thirty-show tour of the US and Canada, called Unwigged and Unplugged. On Wednesday, Apr. 22, they'll descend on Oakland's Paramount Theatre (2025 Broadway) for an intimate, stripped-down set. 8 p.m., $35-$55.
