Electric Sun was an amazing neoclassical metal band in the late ’70s and early ’80s. While not exactly a household name, Electric Sun was known to many fans of the genre as Uli Jon Roth’s short-lived band that he started just after his departure from the Scorpions in 1978. Roth wasn’t the original lead guitarist for Scorpions, but his brief time with the band (1973-1978) — and his phenomenal shredding abilities and classical training — had a lot to do with the group’s launch to stardom. In the ’80s, the Scorpions became superstars and more straight-ahead rockers. However, fans of more complex Scorpions material could continue to hear new classical-style metal via Electric Sun, and then later in Roth’s solo work. This upcoming show will be the first full set of Electric Sun material that Roth has played in the United States in 35 years, and it will be followed by a set of his favorite early Scorpions songs.
