Well, they did it. Despite a Friday court order banning any work stoppages, the service employees of the University of California went through with their threat to carry out a five-day strike yesterday. The Chron reports that thousands of workers joined the strike around the state, including a janitor who handles medical waste for $16 an hour. UC officials have sent out letters warning that employees could face suspensions and other disciplinary measures for the illegal strike, and the governor has decried the union walkout.
