When: Tue., March 4, 1:30 p.m. 2008
The ping of spring will be the sound of college baseball returning to StrawberryCanyon. The California Golden Bears have been the definitive win-some-lose-some squad for the past ten years. The boys with the aluminum bats finished last year with a Pac-10 record of 12-12, which fit in very comfortably with their overall records since coach David Esquer took over in 2000. The Bears are slightly better than one game over .500 in the decade since the former Stanford grad took the reins. On Tuesday, March 4, Cal hosts Esquer's alma mater to start off the Pac-10 season. The locals may not make a run to the College World Series, but with a track record almost perfectly balanced between victory and defeat, what could be more exciting or unpredictable than not knowing who will wind up on top? Stanford at Calplay at Evans Diamond (UC Berkeley). 1:30 p.m., $8 adults, $4 seniors, free for kids under 12.-- Tickets available one hour before the game.
