Two Man Gentlemen Band

When: Sun., Nov. 13, 9 p.m. 2011

This duo might be strictly acoustic, but when Andy Bean starts singing and wailing on tenor guitar, accompanied by Fuller Condon's stand-up bass and backing vocals, Two Man Gentlemen release more energy than most plugged-in rock bands. The Gentlemen's music could be called ragtime, but they imbue it with elements borrowed from folk, swing, Gypsy jazz, R&B, and pop. Bean's concisely constructed solos always move the music forward, with Condon's double-time bass providing a bubbly synchopated pulse. If Django Reinhardt sat in with Cab Calloway, the result might be similarly bright and upbeat. At Amnesia (853 Valencia St, San Francisco) on Sunday, Nov.13. 9 p.m., $10. AmnesiatheBar.com
