When: Fri., Nov. 28, 8 & 10 p.m., Sat., Nov. 29, 8 & 10 p.m. and Sun., Nov. 30, 2 & 7 p.m. 2008

The Bay Area's own Tuck and Patti are perhaps the most unique duo in modern jazz. Patti Cathcart has one of the most versatile voices in the biz, a subtle instrument that can smolder with soulful intensity or playfully flip between octaves and leave you with a giddy smile on your face. Tuck Andress is a guitar magician. His lighting-fast runs, shimmering overtones, and long sustains are impressive, but always put into the service of the melody he's playing. When his wife isn't knocking you out with her vocal flights he can lay you out with his deadpan asides. Tuck and Patti play Yoshi's in San Francisco Friday and Saturday (8 & 10 p.m., $26), and Sunday (2 & 7 p.m., $5-$26), Nov. 28-30. Yoshis.com
