Tom Tom Club

When: Fri., Oct. 8, 8 p.m. 2010

A newer generation of music fan knows the husband-and-wife team of Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth better for their work in Tom Tom Club than as the rhythm section for critical darlings Talking Heads. Credit this new school awareness to the success of their 1981 hit ÒGenius of Love,Ó which was most notably sampled by Mariah Carey for her 1995 chart-topper ÒFantasy".Ó It also got a significant amount of love from hip-hopper Redman and rap outfit Funkdoobiest. Now Tom Tom Club is back on Latin music label Nacional Records, which released the groupÕs seventh album, Genius of Live, actually a partial reboot of 2003Õs Live @ the Clubhouse. And of course, ÒGenius of LoveÓ gets some love on this latest release via a bonus disc featuring remixes by Ozomatli, Money Mark, and Nortec Collective. Out on the road with a ten-musician strong line-up, TTC will be pumping plenty of funk and reggae to get concertgoers dancing, with help from Happy MondaysÕ Paul Ryder and DJ Motion Potion at the Great American Music Hall (859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco) on Friday, October 8. 9 p.m.. $26.
