TM 103 Tour: Young Jeezy

When: Wed., Aug. 31, 9 p.m. 2011

It's certainly a rare treat when gravelly-voiced Southern rapper Young Jeezy graces the Bay Area. He cameoed at Sweet's Ballroom a few years ago, to celebrate the birthday of ex-girlfriend Keyshia Cole, and he brought Vallejo rapper E-40 onstage during a show at Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord. But this week, he'll perform in a more intimate setting, the 1,000-seat Mezzanine club in San Francisco's SOMA district. And to further complicate things, he'll be accompanied by Freddie Gibbs, an Indiana-based artist who's found favor with backpacker audiences and hoity-toity music critics -- including the notoriously fickle New Yorker columnist Sasha Frere-Jones. That's an improbable, but imaginative combination. Gibbs will provide the soul samples and the intricate rhyme schemes; Jeezy will bring the 'hood. At Mezzanine (444 Jessie St., San Francisco) on Wednesday, Aug. 31. 9 p.m., $35, $50.
