.Tiny Telephone 20th Anniversary Party

In 1997, audio engineer and songwriter John Vanderslice opened Tiny Telephone in San Francisco in order to provide independent musicians a space to do what they love at an affordable price. Throughout its existence, the all-analog recording studio has attracted a steady clientele — including Death Cab for Cutie, Spoon, and Sleater-Kinney — and in 2016 Vanderslice opened another location in North Oakland. This weekend, Tiny Telephone will celebrate its 20th anniversary by throwing a free party, with DJ sets by Toro Y Moi and Astronauts, etc., a live performance by Mayya & the Revolutionary Hell Yeah!, free food from El Metate, and free beer from Lagunitas Brewing. In a press release, Vanderslice said he’s “stunned” the studio is still around. “We’ve survived two dot com booms and one bust, a mass exodus of artists, and real estate insanity that inflated our humbled, rented space in San Francisco’s Mission District to comical levels,” he wrote. “We are lucky, for now. So let’s celebrate.”

Saturday, Oct. 7, 6-10 p.m., free, 1458 San Bruno Ave., San Francisco, TinyTelephone.com
