This American Life

When: Thu., May 10, 8 p.m. 2012

If you think about it, it was probably only a matter of time before Ira Glass became a hero of the big screen. After all, his radio show, This American Life, boasts all the intrigue (especially lately) of a big-budget drama and about as much of an audience share, and Glass himself has become something of an indie heartthrob, with a following to rival many a Hollywood actor (just Google "Ira Glass sex tape" for some NSFW -- and, sadly, fake -- proof of the phenomenon). Sure enough, on Thursday, May 10, Glass will host a live version of the show -- also featuring fellow TAL favorites David Sedaris, David Rakoff, and Mike Birbibglia -- at New York City's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, which will in turn be livecast to movie theaters across the country, including AMC Bay Street 16 (5614 Bay St., Emeryville), various theaters in San Francisco and the outer East Bay, and, in an encore on Thursday, May 31, Rialto Cinemas Cerrito (10070 San Pablo Ave., El Cerrito). 8 p.m., $5-$12.
