When: Sun., Feb. 7, 2-4 p.m.
Thelonious Monk’s compositions are so loved and appreciated that musicians frequently record entire albums consisting only of interpretations of his music. At the start of his career, his jagged piano playing alienated listeners, but it soon became a hallmark of a unique voice on the instrument (by 1964, his image made it onto the cover of Time magazine). This workshop will explore and analyze the harmonies and dissonances used by Monk to achieve his signature sound. Transcriptions will be provided. Prerequisites: the ability to read treble and bass clef and knowledge of jazz harmony.
Price: $45 Advance; $60 Day Of Workshop
