The Witnesses (Les Temoins)

Rated NR 112 minutes 2008

Marvelously acted AIDS drama by veteran filmmaker André Téchiné plays off five headstrong Parisian characters against each other in a story of lies, infidelity, and acceptance: a doctor who likes boys (Michel Blanc), a writer (Emmanuelle Beart), her police officer husband (Sami Bouajila), a young gay man fresh from the provinces (Johan Libéreau), and the young man’s sister (Julie Depardieu). When the young man and the cop fall in love, sparks and antibodies begin to fly. Another character gem from the director of Changing Times, Thieves, and The Wild Reeds (112 min., 2007).
