The Warm & Fuzzy Show

When: Dec. 11-Jan. 10 2010

Should your inner Scrooge need taming for the holidays, pop surrealism's cheerfully cartoony weirdness might help. The nearly sixty paintings in Warm & Fuzzy include Yvette Buigues' mysterious animal protagonists ("Standing Hare," "Apple-a-Day"); Chrystal Chan's ("Sweet Migration," "Safe") and Sheri Debow's ("The Wild Ride (Ostrich Girl)") females in strange situations; Jamie Fales' waifs enveloped in various spheres ("Meatball," "Snowball"); Chad Frick's Wild-Thing animals in stylized jungles ("Green Tiger 2," Fuzzy Mudra"); Arabella Proffer-Vendetta's portraits of sleek, soigné women ("Edwina," Nora"); ChiamiSekine's benign bears ("Yellow Teddy," "Goro"); Johnny Thylacine's figures merged with decorations ("Alethea, " "Eva"); Michelle Waters' animal satires on Christmas/Christendom ("Stigmatized," Reluctant Monarch"); and, downstairs, in a separate show entitled Delicate, KurtisRykovich's glam femmes bedecked with collaged rhinestones ("Gossip," "The Collector"). Warm & Fuzzy and Delicate run through January 10 at Eclectix Gallery (10082 San Pablo Ave., El Cerrito). 510-364-7261 or Eclectix.com
