The Von Bondies

When: Fri., March 13, 10 p.m. 2009

With theVon Bondies' greatest notoriety coming via the use of their semi-hit "C'mon, C'mon" as the theme for Denis Leary's FX series Rescue Me and vague memories of the White Stripes' Jack White beating the snot out of frontman Jason Stollsteimer, there hasn't been much to say about this Detroit outfit in the years they've been MIA. But give Stollsteimer and his crew credit for bouncing back after losing its major-label deal and getting up off the mat to release its sophomore follow-up, Love, Hate and Then There's You. Like the Bondies' 2004 debut, Pawn Shoppe Heart,it's a scrappy collection of post-garage rock that wraps Cheap Trick-ish riffs, Stollsteimer's yearning yelp, and a smidgen of girl-group harmonies into a pretty gritty package.  You can catch White's former protégés getting its collective MotorCity groove on at Bottom of the Hill (1233 17th St., San Francisco) on Friday, Mar. 13. 10 p.m., $12.
