Remake of John Carpenter’s 1982 horror flick — not to mention Howard Hawks’ 1951 sci-fi original –— has neither the wit nor the know-how to carry it off. Run-of-the-mill, drips-and-claws frozen monster terrorizes Norwegian scientists and American lookers-on (Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton) at the South Pole. Leftover plot and visual riffs from Jurassic Park, the Alien films, the Predator films, etc., take the booby prize for director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. and screenwriter Eric Heisserer. A dull, torpid piece of anti-entertainment. (103 min.)
