Exciting Irish mountaineering documentary investigates the ill-fated day in 2008 when eleven climbers, from several different expeditions, were killed on Pakistan’s K2, one of the world’s deadliest mountains. Filmmaker Nick Ryan focuses most closely on the Irish group, led by Gerard McDonnell, portrayed in the film’s re-enactments by actor Lochlainn O’Mearain. The combination of period doc footage and re-enactments is sometimes awkward, but the seriousness of the climbers’ predicaments overshadows practically every quibble with the story.
