A family drama about an emotionally wounded, lonely gay man (Bill Hader) and his unhappily married twin sister (Kristen Wiig), reuniting in their old hometown to repair their dysfunctional relationship and share a few comic moments amid the tears. Ordinarily we’d shrink from such a maudlin scenario, but the curious combination of Hader, Wiig, writer Mark Heyman’s dialogue, Craig (True Adolescents) Johnson’s direction, and the guiding hands of mumblecore kings Jay and Mark Duplass works wonders. For a thumbsucker with a corporate-rock playlist and multiple sexual predators bothering our sibling heroes, it’s quite entertaining. Apt character support by Luke Wilson, Ty Burrell, and Joanna Gleason (93 min.).
