Sweaty-palms time when a determined loner (Guy Pearce) hunts down the plug-uglies who stole his car in the dusty, nasty Australian Outback in the desperate days “10 years after the collapse.” Never mind that it’s the same time frame and general mood as the Mad Max series – director David Michôd (who made the excellent Animal Kingdom) plays the scenario he wrote with Joel Edgerton like a grizzled Oz western, with showboat performances by the laconic Pearce and Robert (Twilight) Pattinson, as the chief bad guy’s feeble-minded brother. Don’t put too fine a point on it, just drink it in, in one big gulp (102 min.).
