The Other Cafe Comedy Showcase

When: Fri., March 25, 8 p.m. 2011

The East Bay is awash in new comedy shows these days, but none have the pedigree of the Other Café Comedy Showcase, launching at Freight and Salvage (2020 Addison St., Berkeley) on Friday, Mar. 25. Founder Bob Ayres was also behind the legendary Haight Ashbury comedy club the Other Café, which hosted some of the biggest and best names in slightly cerebral, occasionally absurdist comedy -- Bobcat Goldthwait, Robin Williams, Dana Carvey -- during a decade-long run at the height of the Bay Area's stand-up boom. Now comedy appears to be experiencing a new renaissance, especially in the East Bay, and for the inaugural show Ayres brings both his street cred and that same offbeat, intelligent sensibility to the Freight, with Boston's Don Gavin and the Bay Area's own Will Durst and Geoff Bolt headlining. 8 p.m., $24.50-$27.50. 510-644-2020 or FreightandSalvage.org
