The Oscar Nominated Short Films 2011: Animated

Rated NR 2011

The animated side of the annual Academy shorts compilation is usually more interesting, and this year is no exception. The clear champion is Madagascar: Carnet de Voyage, a beautifully drawn, imaginatively animated portrait of the title island nation and its people, directed by French filmmaker Bastien Dubois. Geefwee Boedoe’s Let’s Pollute skewers wasteful consumption with its witty parody of a 1950s educational reel – this time touting all the convenient ways to waste energy and spoil the environment. It’ll make you stop and think. Also good: Pixar’s Day & Night, directed by Teddy Newton. (85 min.)
