.The Oakland Fence Project

At Omi Gallery.

The Oakland Fence Project is an ongoing initiative to collect photographs taken in Oakland by locals only. The ultimate goal is to turn it into a citywide photography installation by putting the artworks on fences throughout the the Town and erecting a fence specifically for the project in Jack London Square that can serve as a destination and backdrop for performances. The hope is also to launch an accompanying augmented reality mobile app that pulls up the story behind each photo when users hold their phone up to the image. Plus, all of the photos and stories will eventually go online at OaklandFenceProject.org as a digital exhibition. But first, the project will be presenting some of its photos and stories at Omi Gallery (2323 Broadway, Oakland), with an opening on First Friday, June 3, from 6:30–10 p.m. The show will feature nine photographers, including Brittani Sensabaugh, who recently showed Forgotten Cities at Betti Ono Gallery, and acclaimed Oakland photographer and California College of the Arts professor Chris Johnson.
