The Mushroom Cure

When: March 30-April 28 2018

For all those who suffer from (or know someone who suffers from) obsessive-compulsive disorder or other anxiety-related conditions, Adam Strauss’ one-man act is an amusing, entertaining antidote. But the 90-minute play isn’t just Strauss’ true-life tale of trying to treat his OCD with psilocybin mushrooms; it’s also about him navigating a new relationship, his comedy career, and his ill-fated attempts to acquire psychedelic drugs. Strauss has the manic energy of an overstimulated New Yorker, so his internal monologue about trying to pick out the right shirt in the morning feels a little too true. More than anything, though, The Mushroom Cure makes an important point about the need to legitimize psychedelics (and cannabis) as actual medicine, creating a potent alternative to our national opioid crisis.
