The Mighty Macs

Rated G 98 minutes 2011

For people who can never see too many inspirational sports movies, the purportedly true story of the women’s basketball team at Immaculata University outside Philadelphia and its forward-thinking coach, circa 1972, may make a relaxing, predictable night at the movies. All others, proceed with caution. Actress Carla Gugino behaves admirably as coach Cathy Rush, who led Immaculata to the very first national championship for women’s hoops. So it’s feminism, b-ball, and nuns. Hail Mary, full-court press. Directed by TV moveover Tim Chambers from a story he wrote with Anthony Gargano. (102 min.)
