The Lexicon of Sustainability

Social Eats is the branch of Alice Waters’ Edible Schoolyard program geared toward educating young professionals in the Bay Area about the complexities of the global food system. On Wednesday, the featured speaker at the Edible Schoolyard Berkeley Kitchen (1781 Rose St.) will be Douglas Gayeton, the artist and filmmaker behind The Lexicon of Sustainability, an ambitious effort to encourage people to live more sustainably by helping them to understand certain basic terms and principles — “urban farmer,” “farm to table,” “biodiversity,” and so forth. Gayeton will talk about all of the different aspects of the project: books, films, pop-ups, and an ongoing informational artwork series. There will be a Q&A session, with small bites provided. In order to keep the proceedings intimate and interactive, the event will be capped at 35 guests, so those who are interested should pre-register via the Edible Schoolyard website before it’s too late.
