This year's Becoming Jane was an overly dramatic fictional adaptation of Jane Austen's early life that, while spawned thematically from the author's greatest works, failed terribly at capturing her tone, energy, and, above all, fun. The Jane Austen Book Club, however, succeeds across the board by getting all these points right especially the fun. Be impressed since, you know, this romantic comedy is about a monthly book club that meets to discuss Austen's novels. Of course, the fact that they realize they are actually living out the follies, miseries, and joys of her characters, too, only serves to prove Austen is a lot more timeless than you might think.
