The Itals

When: Wed., July 8, 10 p.m. 2009

The Itals may have never become as widely known as fellow vocal trios Culture, Israel Vibration, and the Mighty Diamonds, but this outfit is still much beloved by reggae aficionados thanks to a slate of classic Jamaican sides that include "Time Will Tell," "Don't Wake the Lion," and "Brutal." After making significant headway in the1980s as a roots crew during a time when dancehall was dominating reggae, the Itals' recorded output has been spotty in the ensuing years. Last year found them making a welcome return with In a DisYa Time, a compilation spearheaded by a title cut Keith Richards once called "the perfect reggae track." With founding member Keith Porter still at the helm, these soulful Jamaicans and the Revival Sound System will be ensuring a most irie time on Wednesday, July 8,at Ashkenaz(1317 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley). 10 p.m., $15-$20.
