The Go-Gos

When: Tue., Aug. 16, 8 p.m. 2011

Maybe it was the band's roots as a punk band playing Hollywood's legendary Masque, but The Go-Go's always carried more of an edge -- even with the success of sugary hits like "Vacation" and "Our Lips Are Sealed." Like MTV, the band's classic line-up was a trail-blazing entity that shares a thirtieth anniversary with the channel, in this case the release of its 1981 debut, Beauty and the Beat. The reissue gives a nod to the band's rough-and-tumble origins with a bonus disc featuring a 1981 live show at Boston's Metro Club, where the Go-Go's played with the kind of frenetic energy that found the group sharing bills with The Germs during its pre-label heyday. Expect an older and wiser Go-Go's to appear when its "Girls Gone Wild Tour" hits the Fillmore(1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco) on Tuesday, Aug. 16. 8 p.m., $39.50.
