The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Rated R 146 minutes 2009

The third and final installment in author Stieg Larsson’s “Millennium Trilogy” finds vengeful protagonist Lisbeth Salander (played to the hilt by Noomi Rapace) recovering from her wounds and taking the bad guys – her insanely evil father, her killer behemoth half-brother, and the misogynistic element of the Swedish government -- to court for a legal showdown in the wake of the first two parts’ mayhem. All the while busting heads. Rapace’s Lisbeth is the ideal riot grrrl, and righteous but laid-back journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist) is her perfect complimentary companion. Together they make most other crime-fighting teams look petty and childish by comparison. Director Daniel Alfredson (The Girl Who Played with Fire) supplies typically zippy scene-setting, with Jonas Frykberg and Ulf Ryberg adapting the late Larsson’s novel. A winner. (148 min.)
