Actor-director Katie Aselton and her cast developed the dialogue for this pert chamber sitcom in improvisation, and the experiment works beautifully. A thirtysomething Los Angeles husband named Darren (TV regular Dax Shepard) and his wife Annie (Aselton) decide to scratch the seven-year itch by agreeing that both of them take a “night off” with another partner. Uh-oh. Aselton, Shepard, and the other cast members do their job so well it reminds us of the wise and graceful relationship comedies of Eric Rohmer. This is the way “indie” is supposed to work, and so rarely does. A treat. (78 min.)
