The Fleshtones

When: Thu., Dec. 8, 9 p.m. and Fri., Dec. 9, 9 p.m. 2011

Although The Fleshtones came of age in the late-Seventies, the band still has its original lineup intact. It was an anomaly even at birth, an arty garage band with clanging guitars, an unruly rhythm section, cheesy keyboard textures, and the tortured vocals of Peter Zaremba, which summoned the no-fi era of America's pre-punk garage-band maestros. After more than twenty albums and an endless string of one-nighters, the members still sound as raw as they did when they first took the stage at CBGB's in 1976. They'll play this week at The Knockout (3223 Mission, San Francisco) on Thursday, Dec. 8 and Friday, Dec. 9. 7:30 p.m., $15. TheKnockoutSF.com
