King freaks The Flaming Lips return to the freak kingdom this weekend to continue their reign atop a three-day bill at the Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa, CA. Organizers expect about 35,000 to attend and perhaps camp at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds' eco-fest, off of Highway 101. Primus, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Ghostland Observatory, and Michael Franti & Spearhead round out the 100-band line-up, performing on seven daytime and five nighttime stages.
With over 300 vendors and now in its 33rd year, the Harmony Fest adds a Steampunk Garage, Sustainable Living Road Show, Whole Foods Experience, and a Silent Disco. Earthdance also produces the “Deep Green Lounge” with a "215 medicating zone" and dispensaries. (Three-day pass $120 advance, $190 door. Saturday pass $45 advance, $60 door.)
While we covered the Spring Gathering heading North this Fall, Harmony Festival heads south for the first time with a "Harmony Festival Southern California", October 21-23 in Ventura, CA.
Lastly, The Flaming Lips have some more Gummy Skulls on sale, and have released Heady Nuggs: The First 5 Warner Bros. Records 1992-2002 on vinyl. Here's a stream of their June 2 Sasquatch set from NPR.
