The Felice Brothers

When: Tue., June 9, 8 p.m. and Wed., June 10, 8 p.m. 2009

Raised in the small Catskills town of Palenville, New York, the Felice Brothers (Ian, Simone, James and family friend Christmas Clapton), formed in 2006 after numerous Sunday afternoon jams and cookouts on the porch of their father's house. Armed with a squeezebox, guitar, bass, and drums, the brothers indulged in their love of mountain music, folk, and most anything with an Americana vibe to it, not unlike their musical forbearers the Band. After a brief time spent busking on New York City subway platforms, living in a minibus, and getting numerous loitering summonses, the Felice Brothers are four albums into a career that's earned a number of famous fans including Levon Helm, Bright Eyes, and the Drive-By Truckers. With the recently released Yonder Is the Clock, the Brothers Felice will bring its collective brand of sturm and twang to the Independent (628 San Divisadero St., San Francisco) on Tuesday, June 9 & Wednesday, June 10. 8 p.m., $16.
