The Evisceration Plague Tour w/ Cannibal Corpse

Cannibal Corpse

When: Wed., May 5, 7:30 p.m. 2010

Cannibal Corpse has been making gore-themed death metal since 1988, and the prominent censorship of their ridiculously titled music ("Necropedophile," "Meat Hook Sodomy") has lifted them up as one of the most commercially successful extreme metal bands. 1349 - named for the year the Black Death killed two-thirds of Norway's population - is a powerhouse black metal band from Oslo, drawing heavy inspiration from the second wave of Norwegian black metal of the early Nineties (Mayhem, Darkthrone, Immortal). Returning to this raw and crusty age of underground metal as a stylistic launching pad, they use slicker contemporary technology and technique to make their sound more brutal and intense - with instrumental proficiency and powerful production applied to the same aesthetic that was originally shaped in part by technical inadequacies. And they still keep it real with corpse paint and armor. The Evisceration Plague Tour hits Slim's (333 11th St., San Francisco) on Wednesday, May 5, with Skeletonwitch and Lecherous Nocturne. 7:30 p.m., $26, $28.
