The Dodos & Magik Magik Orchestra Collaborative Performance

When: Thu., Feb. 25, 7 p.m. 2010

Probably one of the most special shows of the Noise Pop festival happens on Thursday, Feb. 25, when the Dodos and Magik*Magik Orchestra unite for a 26-piece, once-in-a-lifetime collaborative performance at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts (3301 Lyon St.), where seating is limited to just 450. The Dodos offer the best of Bay Area indie rock: acoustic guitars, percussive as all hell, and movement at a break-neck clip. They stomped the yard at Outside Lands, got name-checked by Dave Matthews, and released Time to Die to positive reviews last year. The Magik*Magik Orchestra, a symphonic group of varying size and composition, exemplifies experimental classical in the Bay and debuted in August 2009 with Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood. Orchestra director MinnaChoi always matches programming to context in novel ways and early rehearsal videos show this won't be anything like your mama's chamber music. 8 p.m., $25. Ticketmaster.com
